Invited guests are welcomed and encouraged to enjoy the club.
Delighting guests is a cornerstone of our culture.
As a private club, use of the facilities is exclusive to members; However, invited guests are welcomed to enjoy and appreciate the club's amenities.
Prior to arriving, it is recommended that all guests acquaint themselves with our customs and traditions listed below.
Check-In
All guests must check-in with our security staff at the front gate. Guests are invited to valet their vehicle at our Valet stand (Northwest side of The Shop building) or park in our main parking lot. Golfers check-in with our helpful outside services team is in front of The Shop (same location as Valet) for bag drop. Cash tipping is allowed. Head to the Clubhouse Rotunda. Feel free to ask to be pointed in the right direction.
Dress Code
Please think of the dress code within the context of shared values and mutual respect, and as a protection of our fine Medinah heritage. Our adherence to the dress code makes our environment more enjoyable and helps sustain the quality of membership and the standard of excellence upon which Medinah’s reputation was built. The General Manager, along with supervisory staff members, have been authorized by the Board of Directors to notify members or their guests when their attire is not deemed consistent with our dress code policies. In keeping with our tradition, the following dress code applies:
General
Dress code policies apply to all adults, children (defined as 18 and under, either with parents or dining alone), and guests. Members are responsible for the attire of their children and guests. Members must inform their guests of the dress code requirements when inviting their guests to the Club.
Jeans, or denim material of any color, are not permitted on the Club premises by any person, except when specifically approved for a special event, or approved as seasonal attire in specific areas of the Club. Cargo shorts are also not permitted on the Club premises.
Hats worn on Club premises must be worn beak forward and may not be worn on the main level of the Clubhouse and above at any time.
Golf Courses
Proper attire on our golf courses, practice range, and all putting greens is expected to conform in style to the following: Proper attire includes a collared golf shirt or mock turtleneck tucked in, sweaters, Medinah Golf Shop-style pullovers, jackets, slacks, golf shorts which are similar in style to walking and/or Bermuda shorts of an appropriate and tasteful length, and suitable golf footwear. Some clothing items not permitted on the golf courses, practice range and putting greens are tee shirts, undershirts, athletic/sweat shirts, sweat suits, cargo pants, cutoffs, running shorts, cargo shorts, short shorts, tennis attire, swimming attire, halter tops, fishnet tops, and jeans or denim material of any color.
Golf Learning Center
- Winter Months – November 1 through April 30. Denim is allowed.
- Summer Months – Proper golf attire is required.
Clubhouse
The Clubhouse dress code generally follows that of the golf course in most areas.
Lower level of the Clubhouse (which includes the Oasis, Golf Lobby, Women’s and Men’s Lounges, and Locker Rooms):
- Non-collared shirts are not permitted at any time.
- For men, golf shirts must be tucked in at all times. Shirts worn casually on property (other than while golfing) and intended to remain untucked, like Tommy Bahama and Untuckit, may be worn untucked.
- Hats are permitted (beak forward) in the lower level only.
- Open-toed shoes, such as sandals, are permitted.
Non-dining spaces of the main Clubhouse (which includes the Rotunda, Heritage Hall, Palm Lounge, Great Room, Ballroom, Ballroom Veranda, Second Floor Meeting spaces and all Club Offices):
- Non-collared shirts are not permitted at any time.
- Golf shoes are not to be worn in these areas.
- Dress shorts are welcome.
- For men, golf shirts must be tucked in at all times. Shirts worn casually on property (other than while golfing) and intended to remain untucked, like Tommy Bahama and Untuckit, may be worn untucked.
- Hats are not permitted, except for ladies. Gentlemen wearing hats on these levels will be asked to remove them.
- Open-toed shoes, such as sandals, are permitted.
Dining spaces of the main Clubhouse (which includes the Fireside Restaurant, Fireside Veranda, Casbah, Casbah Veranda and Brand Room):
- Hats are not permitted, except for ladies. Gentlemen wearing hats on these levels will be asked to remove them.
- Non-collared tee shirts are not permitted at any time.
- Golf shoes are not to be worn in these areas.
- Dress shorts are welcome.
- For men, golf shirts must be tucked in at all times. Shirts worn casually on property (other than while golfing) and intended to remain untucked, like Tommy Bahama and Untuckit, may be worn untucked.
- Open-toed shoes, such as sandals, are permitted.
Club Events
- Dress codes may be specified for Club functions, which could be country club casual to black tie. These are typically posted for each event.
- Members are responsible for ensuring all children and guests are aware of the proper attire for the event they are attending.
- If in doubt about suitable attire for any specific event, please call the main Club phone number at 630-773-1700 and speak to a receptionist, or any manager of the Club.
Swimming Pool and Cabana Bar
Proper swimming attire is required in, and around, the Pool, Mecca/Halfway House #2, and the Cabana Bar. - When exiting the pool area or Cabana Bar, women must wear a robe or non-sheer cover-up at all times, such as when walking to the Clubhouse locker room or walking between the pool locker rooms and pool parking lot.
- Men must be in approved Club attire when walking to/from pool parking lot, and when exiting the pool area or Cabana Bar to walk to the Clubhouse or locker room. Swim trunks and tee-shirts are appropriate to and from the Clubhouse locker room but not in the Oasis or Oasis Patio.
- During the Pool season, the Cabana Bar is part of the Pool experience. No cover-ups needed. Members and guests may utilize this area in proper swim attire.
Racquet Center
Proper seasonal tennis attire is required for all members and guests. Platform Tennis Season (October 1 – March 31)
- Layers of warm clothing and athletic attire are recommended if playing on the courts.
- Racquet/court footwear are the only appropriate shoes allowed on the Platform courts. NO casual tennis shoes, running shoes or training shoes allowed. This is for your safety and the safety of others.
- Those not playing platform tennis are required to wear clothing as specified by the Clubhouse dress code/lower level.
- Clubhouse dress code/lower level will apply to all areas outside of the Racquet Center facility.
- Denim is allowed during the non-golf season (November 1 – April 30) as approved by the Board.
- It is appropriate to wear proper athletic attire when going to and from the Clubhouse locker rooms and the Racquet Center.
- Platform attire may be worn in the Oasis when dining during the winter months.
Tennis Season – Warming Hut (when the courts are playable for the season).
- Proper tennis attire for girls/women is defined as tennis shorts, skirts, tops and tank tops, as well as athletic apparel such as Lululemon or Athleta.
- Proper tennis attire for boys/men is defined as tennis shorts and polo or appropriate athletic shirts (no tank tops or cut offs).
- All players must wear flat bottomed tennis shoes. No other shoe is acceptable.
- Collared shirts are not required to play tennis, but they are required should you go to other areas of the Medinah property, including dining areas, as required by Clubhouse and golf dress codes.
- Tee shirts are not permitted.
- No basketball, lacrosse or other baggy/long shorts.
- It is appropriate to wear proper athletic attire when going to Clubhouse locker rooms from the Racquet Center.
The Lodge
- Casual or golf attire is acceptable.
- Blue jeans and denim clothing are allowed while participating in winter sports.
Mobile Devices
Medinah Country Club intends to promote the enjoyment of golf and social activity in an environment free from the interruptions of cellular technology.
Other than during operating hours in the Fireside, Veranda, Casbah, and Casbah Deck, where the use of cell phones is not permitted, cell phones are allowed in the clubhouse and on club grounds under the following stipulations:
- Cell phones and other devices should be on a non-audible mode while on club property.
- Listening to voice messages and outgoing calls should only be made discreetly and in remote areas so that others are unaffected.
- When accepting a call in member areas, please keep your speakerphone muted and conduct your phone conversation discreetly so you do not disrupt other members and guests with your phone conversation.
- Texting and internet surfing are permitted throughout the club, providing others are unaffected.
Smoking Policy
Cigars and Cigarettes:
- The Smoke-free Illinois Act, in effect since January 1, 2008, prohibits smoking in public places and places of employment, including private clubs.
- Smoking is prohibited within a minimum distance of 15 feet from entrances, exits, windows that open, and ventilation intakes that serve an enclosed area under this act to ensure that tobacco smoke does not enter the area through entrances exits, open windows, or other means.
- We permit smoking on our Oasis patio, backyard, golf courses, Lodge patio, shooting fields, and outdoor areas not listed below.
- Smoking is NOT permitted within any interior spaces of the clubhouse, Fireside, Fireside Veranda, Casbah, Casbah Veranda, Halfway Houses, Lodge, Mecca, Pool, Cabana Bar, and The Shop.
E-Cigarettes and Vaping:
- To be consistent with the Smoke Free Illinois Act, we do not permit e-cigarettes or vaping within the Clubhouse or enclosed areas. Vaping will be limited to the same smoking areas as outlined above.
